  • All datasets should either have a Digital Object Identifier (DOI) or be working towards obtaining one.

  • Please note: This is not the DOI of the publication(s) associated with the dataset.

  • If a DOI is available and has been minted through another system/organisation, please provide the DOI in the text box provided.

  • If there is not a DOI the Metadata Exchange can mint a DOI for your dataset. Simply click on the red Mint DOI button next to the text box.

FAQs

Why can’t I mint a DOI? / The Mint DOI button is unavailable.

  1. Firstly, the DOI name field must be blank. If there is any text in this field, the Mint DOI button will be unavailable.

  2. The privacy setting for the dataset must be set to “Public”. To change this setting, click the “Change Privacy” button.

in the top right-hand corner of the screen, select “Public” and save changes. Note: The draft metadata record won’t be publicly available until after review and publication. For further information, see the “Submitting your metadata record for review” section.

  3. Click the “Mint DOI” button.

The system will then create a draft DOI via DataCite, and populate this field with the result. Once the metadata record is published (see the “Submitting your metadata record for review” section), the DOI details are finalised and the DOI will become publicly available.

  4. If you are a reviewer, you can also mint a DOI during the publication / dataset finalisation process.
