Mapping Utility

The Mapping Utility is a tool which allows a user to generate mapping suggestions for Data Elements (and also enumerations) between two Data Models and create relationships between these Data Elements.

Step-by-Step Guide

  1. On the dashboard page, open the Settings menu (cog icon) in the top right hand corner and select Mapping Utility from the dropdown menu.

  2. Click on Generate Mappings.

  3. Select the two Data Models you would like to map from the dropdown menus.

  4. Select the type of optimization you would like:
    -  Data Element Exact Match - as the name suggests, this only generate suggestions where there is an exact match between the name of the Data Elements i.e a Search Score of 100.
    -  Data Element Fuzzy Match - this generate suggestions where there are similarities between Data Elements but not always an exact match, the Search Score is not required to be 100.
For this example, a Data Element Exact Match will be selected

  5. Adjust the Min Search Score - this is the minimum search score that a match has to reach before it is added as a mapping suggestion. For example, if the user sets the Search Score to 80, only mapping suggestions where the score is above this cutoff point will be displayed. This allows the user to adjust how broad they want the suggestions to be. As in this example the user has selected the Data Element Exact Match optimization, there is no need to adjust the Min Search Score.

  6. Click on Generate.

  7. The user will be directed back to the Mapping Batches page. Upon refresh, a mapping batch will now be generated. Depending on the size of the Data Models this may take several minutes to complete.

  8. Once generated, click on the name of the Mapping Batch to open it.

  9. A list of all the mapping suggestions generated will be displayed.

The ID and Name of each Data Element are displayed below each respective Data Model across from each other where there is a potential match.
In this simple example, only two exact matches have been generated. You can see that these have identical names (excluding the letter case) and have a Search Score of 100. In other cases, one Data Element may have many potential matches which will be displayed in order of their Search Score (from highest to lowest).

To see further information, hover the mouse over the Data Element to see a preview of the most important information for the Data Element:

The user can also open each of the Data Elements in full by right clicking on the names of the Data Elements and opening them in a new tab to further confirm that these elements are a good match. In this case the user will most likely want to approve these.

  10. To do this, select the matches by checking the box(es) on the left hand side and click on Approve. This will automatically create a relationship between the elements that can be viewed in the the Related To tab of either Data Element.
  11. To reject a mapping suggestion, check the box(es) on the left hand side and click on Reject
