Categorise and filter your datasets by Dataset Type

With 2022-R7 comes the ability to categorise your datasets into three dataset types:

Type

Description

Specific Features

Dataset

A dataset (or physical data model) contains the actual structure of the database.

  • Data Dictionary

  • Data Download tab (or Request Access button)

Data Standards

A data standard (or logical data model)

  • Data Dictionary

Terminologies

A Terminology

A terminology (or conceptual data model) is a collection of terms, similar to a glossary. This is the the most abstract level of data model, concerned with high level business concepts.

  • Terminology (here the structural metadata is displayed in an A-Z format)

Data Standard

A data standard (or logical data model) builds on the terminology by setting out the relationships between data elements and how the dataset should be implemented.

  • Data Dictionary

Dataset

A dataset (or physical data model) contains the actual structure of the database.

  • Data Dictionary

  • Data Download tab (or Request Access button)

Note:

At the moment the dataset type must be configured in the Advanced View/Catalogue but this functionality will be added to the onboarder in a future release.

View complex hierarchies and relationships in your data dictionaries

The data dictionary now displays the full hierarchy of a dataset or data standard. Simply click on a data class to view its child classes on the side bar and data elements in the main pane of the data dictionary. Please note that hierarchies do not apply to terminologies as these are displayed in an A-Z structure.

Enrich your datasets with the new assets section

In addition to the Data Download tab on the browser, you can now add additional documentation/files to your datasets in the Assets tab.

At the moment these assets must be added in the Advanced View/ Catalogue, but this functionality will be added into the onboarder in due course.

New dedicated feedback section

To encourage more valuable feedback, we have added a dedicated feedback button on the sidebar which links to a feedback form in our service desk.
